Abstract

A theological interrogation of the motto: Faavae i le Atua Samoa (Samoa is founded on God) aimed to show that there is room in the motto, not only for Samoa to be founded on the Christian God; but also in the Atua of our ancestors Tagaloaalagi. The research found that in the minds and hearts of Samoans, there is room to have God and Atua co-exist as the nation's foundation. This was evident in the fact that Samoans saw the importance of having Gospel and culture standing side by side and not in opposition.
