Abstract

We provide details from and critique on the Materia Medica of Hindoostan and Artisan's and Agriculturist's Nomenclature written by a Madras surgeon, Whitelaw Ainslie, published in Madras in 1813. We discuss its relevance published at a time when no materia medica ' presented as an extensive pharmaceutical resource developed on the principles of Westernscience ' existed in southern India.
