Abstract

This document has outlined issues relevant to alcohol education for secondary school students. It has attempted to review and summarise the evidence to identify essential ingredients for effectiveness. It has also sought to highlight challenges that schools and teachers encounter in attempting to implement `evidence based? approaches. It has concluded with a brief section on the ways in which social/peer influence is relevant to alcohol education and suggested some aspects which can inform alcohol education approaches. The next stage of this consultancy will involve providing more detailed information, resources, activities and ideas relating to normative education, social norms approaches and a variety of other topics relevant to alcohol education for secondary students, as requested by the DET.
