Abstract

The 18 invited Schools of Thought contributions in the previous chapter outline a variety of challenges, motivations and possible futures for the Design School. The contributions come from leading design educators, researchers, practitioners, curators, critics, and writers that collectively wish to see design fulfil its potential educationally, culturally, economically, and socially. This chapter takes on the ideas and issues raised in the Schools of Thought contributions and proposes an alternative Design School – an Alterplinary Design School - with a manifesto that comprises futures for the design discipline where the emphasis is on understanding how little we know and recognising that the unknown is a necessary condition for the beginning of any future project.
