Abstract
Introduction: A Cross-national comparison of the Occupational Therapy (OT) curricula is key to understand the profession’s internationalisation process. Aim: To compare the OT curricula of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in two different countries, Brazil and Spain.
Methodology: Qualitative documentary analyses. Documents were retrieved from both HEIs’ websites. Three categories were analysed: (i) Conceptual Definitions; (ii) Curriculum; and (iii) Academic Staff.
Results: Both programs used the term occupation in their documents; however, at the Spanish HEI, it seems to be a core concept, whereas at the Brazilian HEI, it appears mainly along with the term activity as an intervention tool. The curricula largely differ in the amount of hours in the classroom, but they presented a similar percentage of time dedicated to OT’s subjects. It was also found more research and social science courses in the Spanish curriculum. A higher number of lecturers holding a Ph.D. degree was found at the Brazilian HEI.
