Abstract

He Ialpha photoelectron spectra have been measured for the I- 5p6 shell of all diatomic alkali iodides for emission at 90 degrees and 26 degrees to an unpolarised photon beam. 2P 3/2:2P1/2 branching ratios are reported for these angles. By assuming an asymmetry parameter for ionisation to the 2P3/2 state of I values are calculated for ionisation to the 2P1/2 state and absolute branching ratios are found. Results calculated in this way are discussed in terms of existing measurements for the equivalent states of xenon and of the ionic/covalent character of the iodide.
