Abstract

Charles Sturt University presented the first ever graduates from Animation and Visual Effects on Sunday 22nd November, 2009 with an official premiere of their newly released films. Since the launch of the degree in 2007, the students had evolved from basic 2D concept art through to sophisticated internationally-competitive 3D animations over 3 dedicated years. Embracing the rich history of traditional animation with the latest advances in industry-leading software, the students had meticulously crafted every frame (often with many layers) for the audience. The edit was 45 minutes runtime representing over 67,500 frames of work. I organised the event and compiled the films in Full HD 1080p ' a first for graduate screenings. In collaboration with the Forum 6 technical staff, I encoded the films to be compatible with their custom theatre system. Five of these films have gone on to be selected in the Melbourne International Animation Festival 2010.
