Abstract

This chapter explores symbiotic partnerships taking place within the soil and draws upon works by Samuel Beckett, Claire Denis, Perdita Phillips and Caryl Churchill. We suggest that Western theatre needs to rethink its familiar scales, times and dimensions in order to explore bacterial relations with animate and nonanimate actors who are engaged in a dynamic process of composition and decomposition.
