Abstract
The Australian government is progressing a multi-year program to simplify its international trade regulations, streamline its regulatory processes and modernise outdated information and communication technology systems to help strengthen Australia’s economic resilience. The program, known as the Simplified Trade System (STS), has received ongoing government funding since 2020. But progress has been slow, with the efforts of the past three years producing little practical outcome. The STS continues to be seen as a work in progress.
