Back Analysis of Tabarak Abad Dam Behavior during Construction

Abstract

Tabarak Abad dam is a clay core, earth-rock fill dam with the height of 74 m above its rocky foundation. The dam with the crest
length of 193.5 m is located on the Tabarak Abad River at north east of IRAN. It is extensively instrumented to provide data required
for dam monitoring.
In this paper, the real parameters for different materials used in Tabarak Abad Dam are obtained using back analysis by suitable
software. For this purpose, the primary soil parameters in the design stage are changed in such a way that the real behavior of dam
during construction, which is detected by instruments, could be in agreement with the simulation results. The updated material
properties are required for the stability analysis of the dam body during the future events such as first impounding and operation time.
