Abstract

Security and privacy are the growing concerns in healthcare platform due to the sensitive clinical data stored in electronic healthcare systems. Breaches of the sensitive data of an individual’s health record can be occurred due to attacks by hackers or malicious insiders. Hence, providing privacy and security of clinical data in healthcare systems is very crucial. In recent years, biometric technologies have gained traction in healthcare applications to provide reliable and secure authentication compared to the traditional approaches. Biometric-based access control over healthcare data can provide the necessary security and privacy. This paper investigates the privacy and security challenges in digital healthcare systems and explores the successful applications of biometrics technology in addressing the security challenges and solutions.
