Abstract

In his letter of 30 April 1944 from prison (to Eberhard Bethge) Dietrich Bonhoeffer makes his famous claim that the ‘age of inwardness and conscience’ is over, perhaps the ‘age of religion altogether’. Almost eighty years later both religion and conscience are still hanging in there, even if only barely (depending of course on where you find your-self in the world).
