Abstract
This report outlines the activities and outcomes from a project titled “Building Health Analytics Capabilities in Collaboration with Mid North Coast Local Health District” which is a Data Science Research Unit (DSRU) pilot project funded during 2021-22.
The activities initiated and established a long-term collaborative effort between MNCLHD and DSRU in seeking out future research funding and mentoring opportunities on an ongoing basis. The project team was able to highlight to the MNCLHD team that their current architecture, that lacks automation is hampering their ability to undertake prescriptive or predictive analytics. As part of the research activities, the project team presented a list of possible research grants and funding opportunities focused on health, health administration, data and analytics available during 2022 and 2023. The collaboration discussed the opportunities and, through workshops, have agreed to apply for research funding for a number of the opportunities that align with the business needs of
MNCLHD, and support the implementation of their Digital Strategy while leveraging DSRU’s expertise.
MNCLHD are now in a position to consider how advanced analytics is able to assist their organisation. Through DSRU project team’s involvement. MNCLHD is interested to explore some key burning issues that are hindering their daily activities. Some of the topics under consideration include; Patient Average Length of Stay (ALOS), Patient journey tracking, Surgical procedures data
analysis, Predicting patient likelihood of admission, and then a medium or long stay.
