Abstract

Cabaret Kite is an initiative supported by Local Stages, a Regional Arts N.S.W initiative to develop community involvement in creative works. I am the MC of this cabaret and have been since its inception in 2007. Cabaret Kite aims to use a professional MC to mentor upcoming artists as well as technical and production crew. As the MC and co-director I am responsible for selecting and curating acts and mentoring CSU students who volunteer for production and technical roles such as Stage Manager, Assistant Stage Manager, event management, set design, lighting and sound operation as well as those who wish to perform. I MC the show with a band I have coordinated that also showcases staff and student talent from C.S.U.. The innovative programme was modeled on the success of the cabaret format being held in other regional theatres, such as Merrigong Theatre in Wollongong. Cabaret Kite is an extremely popular event that occurs 3-5 times per year.
