Abstract

Charles Sturt University (CSU) desires to produce graduates who are on the path to culturally competence and to support students into the posture of what cultural competence may mean for them when they graduate into their professions. In 2011 a project called Getting into the posture recognised that there is a combined need to help students (especially in preparing for practicum placements) with some training in cultural competence that alerted them to what they may encounter on their placements and /or helps in their understanding of the situations that face Indigenous Australians and their critical reflection of this. Working very closely with Indigenous Australian Elders, a combined disciplinary project team coordinated by the Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy Coordinator constructed a digital learning resource that exposes students to the general issues of cultural competence in preparation for their education of Australia's past historical practices and contemporary issues. Cassie's Story; Dyan Ngal is a resource that seeks to value-add to those initiatives already underway at CSU; specifically the embedding of Indigenous curriculum and pedagogy in all undergraduate on-shore courses by 2015. Cassie's Story; Dyan Ngal is a generic cultural competence resource that is leading several add-ons specific resources to the issues identified by various Faculty and discipline groups.
