Abstract
The aim of this article is to review the published literature on the use of ThinPrep as an alternative technique in urine cytology. The article compares published results on smear quality, low grade and high grade transitional cell carcinoma detection rates and the advantages and disadvantages of the technique. The potential of replacing conventional urine cytology (namely the Cytospin or filter technology) with the ThinPrep technique is also discussed.
