Abstract
This article investigates the confessional theological struggles within the Uniting Church in Australia during the years 1997 to 2003. It does so against the background of the history of the concept of "confession" in the process leading up to the formation of the Uniting Church in Australia in 1977. It demonstrates how Reformed Churches like the Uniting Church in Australia often need a theological guide like that usually found in a Confession of Faith.
