Abstract

To the editor: Thank you to the fellow scientists who have commented on this topic (see Ref. 1). However, while debate is good and an essential ingredient of science, surely we should be beyond the topic of this debate more than 230 years after the discovery of lactate (La'), more than 80 years after initial research of muscle lactate production and the elucidation of the glycolytic pathway, and more than 60 years after the establishment of the field of acid-base chemistry!
