Mark Macleod, Robyn Platt

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This handbook for teachers includes detailed lesson plans for each of 40 books chosen by me and my collaborator, Robyn Platt. Core Library is a guided and shared reading program that also includes a separate set of 40 guides for scaffolded individual reading by students, published as a set of 40 bookmarks. The research needed to produce this guide included wide reading in fiction and information books suitable for Middle Primary students, reading of the individual Australian state curricula and the new national curriculum, monthly workshops for one year, in which a lesson plan for each text was created, a complementary scaffolded reading guide for individual student work on each text, matching of each text with specific curriculum outcomes. The result is a 148 page guide with highly detailed lesson plans involving synopsis, themes, questions to ask the class, the range of predicted answers by students and suggested responses to them by the teacher, activities designed to meet specific outcomes, suggestions for further reading.
