CORE LIBRARY TEACHERS GUIDE MIDDLE PRIMARY #2

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This is a second edition of the first Core Library Middle Primary Teachers Guide, completely revised to include more recent publications. It is a series of detailed lesson plans for each of 40 fiction and information book texts chosen by my collaborator and me, for guided and shared reading, plus a collection of 40 complementary scaffolded reading guides for students. In order to produce both the teachers' handbook and the student guides, we had to read widely for a year in fiction and information books available for this age group, choose the 40 texts, meet for monthly workshops - sometimes for four full days - to write the lesson plans. We needed to have detailed familiarity with the various Australian state curricula and the new national curriculum, so that we could match each text for study to specific outcomes, and so that we could devise a range of pre-reading and after-reading activities, along with suggestions for further reading appropriate to each set text.
