Abstract

Increasingly, Anglicare leaders, staff and volunteers are being called upon to create communities of hope in uncertain times. In response to this need Anglicare NSW South, NSW West and ACT partnered with a social work academic and social science researcher from Charles Sturt University to undertake a co-operative inquiry into the research question: With a focus on exemplars, how do the church and its agencies create communities of hope in the current uncertain times? The aim of the inquiry was to contextualise a Christian and multidisciplinary understanding of hope within Australia. In this presentation, three exemplary case studies from Anglicare were critiqued: first, Justin whose mental health was impacted by COVID-19 lockdowns; second, an Anglicare Disaster Recovery Team and how they engaged with the local community; third, Cyrena Harris and how she, in partnership with Anglicare and the local church, educated her community about COVID-19
