Abstract
The Spierig Bros film 'Daybreakers' is set in the year 2019. The planet Earth is devoid of life as we know it. The only animals in this world apart from humans are vampires, bats and aggressive blood seeking creatures known as 'subsiders'. My role was to design and produce the entire atmospheric effect for a film in which the aural environment is utterly different from our own. My objective was to create sounds which have not been heard before; and which in fact do not actually exist. The significance of the sound design created for this film is that I created new and original sounds, rather than recording/modifying existing sounds, in the course of attempting to imagine how the future might sound; and then creatively project what has not yet been heard.
