Abstract

This work consists of a large-scale fine art photographic landscape image exhibited as part of a curated group exhibition titled "Works in Progress". The image, titled 'Dinosaur Rock' measures 1.5 x 1 metres. As the exhibition title suggests, this work is adjunct to my current practice-led research into Australian regional landscape. This landscapes, which is photographed in remote areas of the Australian bush, shows an inclusion of human presence that is overwhelmed by the environment. This work contributes to contemporary aesthetic and conceptual discourse in fine art landscape photography. It merges landscape with social documentary photography, by archiving a cultural and social record of people and events, resulting in a kind of social landscape that is questioning and challenging to the viewer, as well as provoking contemplation and reflection.
