Abstract
Theology is a servant of the church. Its function is to help the church be what it is: the 'church of God', body of Christ' salt of the earth, and light of the world. Within the community of faith, an important function of theology is both to discern and to test the spirits, 'to see whether they are of God' (1 Cor. 12:1-11; 1 John 4.) Theology, although not the most important function within the community of faith, has the important task of helping to keep Christian faith Christian.
