Abstract

The nursing workforce in Australia and around the world faces severe shortages. Several reasons suggested for this predicted shortage include:- an increased need for health care workers due to changing demographics- an ageing workforce with the average age of registered nurses working in Australia in 2011 being 44.5 years - difficulty retaining early career nurses
