The electronic structures of six organochlorine insecticides: '-lindane (I), aldrin (II), dieldrin (III), DDD (IV), DDE (V) and DDT(VI) have been investigated by UV photoelectron spectroscopy (UPS), quantum chemical calculations and comparison with molecular modelling studies. Their electronic and molecular structures are discussed in order to rationalize their biological activity. In this work we relate the biological activity of these insecticides to their experimentally observed electronic and molecular structures.
