Abstract

Cross-generational physical activity (CGPA) has been identified as a vehicle which connects family members, providing social, emotional, psychological, and physical benefits. CGPA is co-constructed by interplay between children and parents. Children who are not meeting their developmental milestones, and their families, who live in regional areas, have been identified as a population that would particularly benefit from regular engagement in CGPA. This study will investigate and coproduce resources that support regional children and families to plan and engage in CGPA. We have developed initial, evidence-based prototypes of resources to be used by families to support CGPA. The next stage is to review, further develop and evaluate these resources through coproduction. The initial prototypes have been designed to support and guide children and parents in working together to plan a session of CGPA. Coproduction will ensure that families gain experience in CGPA and both parent and child voices contribute to the coproduced resources. Once the coproduced resources have been developed and evaluated, they can be considered for further development with other populations in regional areas, to assess their utility in providing education and support for CGPA. App development, to enhance sharing of resources with families, is another area of future development.
