Abstract

The poor physical health of people living with mental illness is a complex and multifaceted issue. People with mental illness are at increased risk of a range of different physical health problems and often have difficulty accessing services.Consequently, there is a marked reduction in life expectancy for people with mental illness.1 As a group, people living with mental illness have over twice the premature death rate of the general population.2 People with mental illness living in rural and remote communities have almost three times the rate of premature death compared to the population average.
