Abstract

The chapter identifies key historical influences on contemporary health and health outcomes for First Nations. It explains the relevance and appropriateness of primary health care (PHC) and culturally responsive practice for First Nations' contexts. It articulates the principles of cultural safety, and identifies the main focus of the community nursing role when delivering PHC with First Nations communities in a health-promoting way.
