Abstract
This article analyses the overlooked Australian film High Tide because it provides rare insight into complex female characters who go beyond their usually limited portrayal in cinema as lovers, mothers or daughters. It also analyses the aesthetic quality of this film that challenges conventional depictions of femininity as well as the Australian beach.
