Abstract

Australian clearance rates are some of the best in the world, with 13% of homicides unresolved. This chapter discusses homicide in Australia and offers information about what issues can positively or negatively affect solvability, the challenges faced by police investigators during these investigations and investigative opportunities open to detectives. It also provides case studies related to the three main homicide typologies in order to discuss tools and techniques available.
