Abstract

Although Information Communication Technology (ICT) is an essential business tool and acompetitive necessity, it remains unclear how ICT value is created. We explore the process of ICTvalue creation through employing systems theory and notions of complexity. Through these lenses, theprocess of ICT value creation is conceptualised and presented as an adaptive, self-organising and coevolvingsystem. It's due to non-linear interdependencies and interactions among the system'selements that even small changes may lead to un-proportional change in the system's output, that is,ICT value. Elements of this system are ICT applications, users, organisational goals and culture, andthe external environment. Subsequent research employing simulation will explore the dynamics andinteractivity of the components as ICT value is created.
