    Abstract

In recent years, early childhood learning and curriculum frameworks have been developed in many countries. We were deeply involved in the writing of Australia's new national learning framework for early childhood settings. In this article, we empahsise the importance of examining how early childhood educators are portrayed in these frameworks. We then describe some of the images of early childhood educators conveyed in the Australian framework. We conclude that, at times, it portrays educators as knowledgeable, skilled, ethical and crtically reflective professionals, but that there are also contradictory images.
