Abstract

The Industry Panel was established in October 1994 by the Minister responsible for Customs. The Panel's purpose is to assist the Australian Customs Service in the formulation of its future external audit strategy and to provide a forum for Customs to consult with its clients on initiatives which impact on them. The Panel has been asked to provide a report on Customs audit operations and policy for the Minister's consideration.
In the timeframe available, the Panel has focussed on the more strategic issues, recognising that Customs will need to address a range of operational details following ministerial endorsement of the recommendations.
