Abstract

This 3-hour workshop will introduce the audience to an “Information Action Brief” (IAB) that is a tool (resource guide) to implement transformational actions using information to advance the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It will assist members of the information community to develop their own IABs related to their research/teaching/service/engagement areas of interest during small breakout group sessions. Participating individuals develop ten action items for one of the 17 SDGs connecting to their work from an information perspective. Session results will inspire members to act locally or globally, personally or collectively to integrate the SDGs in the context of participants’ information-related scholarship. During the interactive workshop, real-world actions will be discussed to develop a comprehensive picture of the role of information in shaping progressive change in the world. Implications will involve transforming the professions in an emerging information advocacy role for the remaining decade to achieve the SDGs.

OtherAs we embark on the proceedings of iConference 2024, we reflect upon the changes since the iConference of 2023. This annual gathering represents a symbol of the resilience, adaptability, and innovation of the information community. Emerging from the challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, the iSchools community navigated the remote conference landscape, laying the foundation for a new normal where technology became the bridge connecting minds, ideas, and aspirations. The success of the iSchools conference of 2023 reaffirmed the pivotal role of information technologies in fostering engagement and collaboration. It set the stage for the overarching theme of the 19th iConference: “Wisdom, Well-being, and Win-win.” This theme encapsulates our commitment to exploring synergies, nurturing shared goals, and leveraging the power of information to enhance the well-being of individuals and communities. As we delve into the proceedings, we invite readers to witness the culmination of efforts aimed at not only advancing scholarly discourse but also contributing to the broader landscape of wisdom-driven innovation. The virtual iConference 2024 took place from April 15–18, 2024 before the physical conference on April 22–26, 2024 at Changchun, China. Its hosts included Jilin University, China, and University of Tsukuba, Japan. The conference theme attracted a total of 218 submissions with 109 Full Research Papers and 109 Short Research Papers
