Abstract

There is a general clinical need for automated image detection of retinal pathology. Within this context there is a very strong drive for automated detection targeted to diabetic retinopathy and eye-screening. Therefore we structure our argument for the clinical need as follows: first by identifying factors related to the general clinical need, then by focusing specifically on the need resulting from the diabetes epidemic. Finally we consider application to other retinal disorders.
