Abstract

Entry for the US Dictionary of Literary Biography on Australia's most successful writer for Young Adults, John Marsden. The article is 6000 words long, tracks Marsden's writing career and positions his work in Australia's changing cultural and political contexts at the end of the 20th century. It explores Marsden's interest in the relationship between the creative process and education, and questions the gap between his popularity with young adult readers and the ambivalence of adult critics.
