Abstract

This book focuses on the practices of ‘middle leaders’ in schools and other educational institutions. By ‘middle leaders’ we mean teachers who have a position of leadership but also still involved in classroom teaching. This would include development leaders, process leaders, senior teachers, assistant principals, syndicate leaders and curriculum/discipline heads or coordinators. In their positions that bridge ‘management’ and ‘the classroom’ they are significant leaders in promoting and sustaining effective pedagogy for good learning outcomes.
In this book the key aspects of the role of curriculum and professional leader are discussed by placing learning and teaching as the primary focus, and practical applications are outlined and supported by research. This discussion is grounded in an extensive research program undertaken by the three authors across four different countries and in a range of educational settings.
