Abstract
The first gift by which we are welcomed into the world is the gift of a name. We are born into a name or given a name (at least at birth). We don't choose a name. The name chooses us. It would be difficult to find a more succinct articulation of both Leonard Cohen's artistic and theological vision than these words: the Name1 chooses us.
