This paper describes the occurrence of a lipoma associated with the long digital extensor tendon sheath at the level of the tarsus in a 5 month old weanling filly. Radiographic and sonographic examination confirmed the presence of a soft tissue mass but were not diagnostic of a lipoma. A diagnosis of encapsulated lipoma was established histologically. Its position and imaging and gross and microscopic characteristics have similarities to lipoma arborescens which is reported to occur in and around the joints and tendon sheaths of people.
