Abstract

This report investigates the existing literature and previous research on the impact of introducing body worn cameras (BWCs) in police and law enforcement agencies in Australia and internationally. The report explores a broad range of themes, such as the impact of BWCs on the relationship between the community and law enforcement agencies, the professionalism and accountability of law enforcement officers and the incidence of occupational violence (OV) and workplace injury. The review further explores the implications of BWCs for judiciary and court processes, policies and procedures for implementation, experiences of technological adoption and strategies for training and development of staff in using BWCs. The report concludes with a discussion of the ethical issues arising from the use of BWCs in various circumstances and a discussion of emerging issues and further research priorities.
