Abstract
Lost Rocks (2017-21) is an Art project that engages readers, artists and audiences with the Natural Sciences, specifically the
field of geology. Petrified Wood. Fossil. Petrified Wood
includes the work of four artists, drawings, animation, sound installation, publications and video work for exhibition; as well as a range of public program activities including a community geology walk and rock picnic, a film screening, poetry reading and artists’ public talk.
Lost Rocks (2017-21) is a 5 year publishing project that invites 40 artists and writers to select a missing rock from a discarded Tasmanian rocks and minerals specimen board, formerly used for educating students of geology. Each artist is commissioned to research a missing rock or mineral, and compose a 96 page fictiönella in response, communicating new geological knowledge through creative, experimental and communicative texts. So far 11 books in the series have been published and the Lost Rocks (2017-21) is created by A Published Event, a Hobart based publishing collaboration that specializes in writing, publishing and creative practice as a form of research.
