Abstract
The project Mathematical Thinking of Preschool Children in Rural and Regional Australia: Research and Practice was funded by the National Centre of Science, Information and Communication Technology, and Mathematics Education for Rural and Regional Australia (SiMMER). The project arose from a conference of Australian and New Zealand researchers called the Early Years Mathematic Forum. Held in 2007, the conference identified a number of important problems related to mathematical learning of children prior to formal schooling.
