Abstract
This chapter examines the leadership style of Muhammad Fethullah Gulen who is one of the most significant Muslim leaders of the modern era. The Economist described him as ‘a farm boy on the world stage’. Gulen was named the Foreign Policy’s public intellectual of the year in 2008. He was included in Time Magazine’s 2013 top 100 list of world leaders. What puts Gulen in these prestigious lists is his role in the founding and leadership of the transnational Hizmet (service) movement, the largest and most influential religio-civic movement in Turkey and one of the largest in the Muslim world.
