Abstract

A play by Alex Buzo. This production performed in Wagga Wagga skateboard park. The refugee community in Australia endure the same kinds of prejudices the play brutally brought to light when it was written fifty years ago. In 2018 the resonances are still profound. Together with director Robert Lewis we developed the site specific production in a youth filled environment which has a reputation for being 'rough'. With the local skateboarders and bikers watching and eventually participating during rehearsals, they became part of the production. The outdoor location, the shape and design of the skateboard park informed the acting style and form of the production.
