Abstract

Methods: A systematic search of peer-reviewed literature will be conducted in CINHAL, PubMed, Scopus, and Medline with the help of a research librarian and the methodology for scoping reviews by Arksey and O'Malley using the following search strategy and terms: Population: Nurse Navigators (any model described as a nurse navigator) Concept: Model of care Intervention: Navigation model of care Context - Multiple chronic and complex diseases across any location, age, and disease (Nurs* Navigat*) OR navigator OR Navigation AND (Model of care) OR Role OR responsibil* OR service OR (service provision) OR referral OR measure OR outcome* AND (Complex disease) OR (Chronic Disease) OR Multimorb* OR Comorbid* OR (complex care) Outcome: Who are Nurse navigators (for example, senior RNs, credentialed nurses, etc.); What do they do (e.g., role definition and job description/expectations)? Where do they work (setting)? When and at what point in a person's interaction with the health system do they work with people? How do they work (models of care)? Compare this with the stated (if possible). What outcomes have been achieved as a result of the Nurse Navigator's role? Comparison: A comparison will be made between studies of major and established NN services across countries, identifying areas of congruence and divergence where applicable.
