Nursery Rhymes: Clever Rhymes to Sing and Learn

Research output: Book/ReportBook

Abstract

This is an anthology of nursery rhymes that enable young children to learn specific concepts. It was commissioned by Australia's leading audiobook publisher, Bolinda Audio. They wanted the anthology to have two sections: one was a selection of traditional oral rhymes, which was to include little known Australian examples, and English rhymes adapted by me, with the purpose of giving them an Australian flavour. The other half of the anthology was to be an original composition. It is a collection of rhymes written by me and designed to help children learn mathematical multiplication. Some of the rhymes in this anthology are spoken, and some are accompanied by music. The research for this anthology required six months study of existing anthologies, about 50 in total, scholarly sources in the British oral tradition, 19th and early 20th century newspapers, journals, magazines and manuscript collections, for little known Australian rhymes and rhymes that could be be given an Australianised adaptation.
