One exercise I always return to… integrative physiovocal patterns

Research output: Contribution to journalArticlepeer-review

Abstract

I always turn to exercises that are integrated from the beginning, that is, explore voice and body at the same time, rather than conducting separate voice and body work and leave it up to the actor to figure integration out themselves. I tend to reach for exercises that allow for full physiovocal expressivity. One such example, is one that I have developed throughout the years that integrate Irmgard Bartenieff’s Patters of Total Body Connectivity and the voice. The following sequences describe a developmental progression of neurological organisation from Ontongenesis (baby to adult) and Phylogenesis (amoeba to primate). The evolution of movement and movement patters coincides with the evolution of the voice and speech patterns.
