Abstract

This chapter focuses on open access. Its aim is to provide readers with some historical background to the open access movement, explain the various (and sometimes complex) models through which open access to research is delivered, and explore the role and impact of funder policies on the OA landscape. The chapter also summarises the key challenges and benefits associated with OA and concludes by highlighting some important implications for journal editors and those seeking to establish a new journal.
