Abstract
Out of the Dark is a book/catalogue of black & white photographs created by CSU Photography students studying analogue darkroom-based photography. The book was edited and designed by Hayley Hillis, and Jamie Holcombe wrote the introduction essay. Published by CSU in November 2014 (ISBN: 978-1-86-467257-2).The book exhibits the work of the 33 photography students and includes a statement/quote from each participant. It explores the inherent value of film-based photographic practice as an important learning tool, by informing the historical and conceptual underpinnings of contemporary digital photography.
